There was a joke on Brooklyn Nine-Nine where Terry Crews’ character used “A.F.” but then explained he meant “As Fraiser.” I wonder if there’s a Standards and Practices thing where you can only say “A.F. if you explain that the F stands for something other than the actual F word.

Yeah, I guess the difference would be that the first time, neither guy actually *wanted* to be with her at the time, but she was infatuated with them and the idea of being in a love triangle, whereas now the reversal would be that they all want to be with her but she will likely choose none of them.

They did it the correct way, and if they had said “12 frames per second” there would’ve been a hundred commenters in here complaining that that’s not how slow motion works.

We’re currently re-watching the series on Netflix, and while they lampshaded it by doing the brief reprise, it was a little odd seeing in close proximity how much this current “which man will Rebecca choose” storyline is effectively exactly the same as the original episode that The Math of Love Triangles was from,

According to Rachel Bloom’s twitter, David Hull has a big showcase number in the penultimate episode next Friday, so at least there’s that!

Yeah I appreciated that too as it saved us a painful scene of her being super confident but terrible and having to be told that she sucks.

My favorite meta-gag of the episode was how they had multiple characters comment on how easy it would be to cut that song without altering the story at all, and then the episode including it in it’s entirety. “My name is... not important!”

They seemed to be very much planting the seed of her realizing that writing was the thing that makes her happy more than performing. It did seem kind of silly that she said her “dream got stomped on” after one botched regional theater production of a bunch of songs she turned out not to like anyway (like, just try out

I kinda felt like the episode did a disservice to Beth’s character by not letting her respond to Valencia’s tantrum in any real way. I get that they wanted the cliffhanger, but it seemed kind of cheap to not get to hear her response to Valencia saying she wasn’t going back to New York without a proposal, it’s not like

They sort of played it like he was doing it with an ulterior motive though, if he weren’t he wouldn’t have felt the need to over-explain so much why he decided to do the play, he could’ve just been like “I wanted to support Rebecca because we’re friends.”

Is Elliot Ellison supposed to be based on a specific person? It seems like such a specific satire, but I can’t put my finger on it. I thought maybe Busby Berkely (due to the alliterative name/regressive gender stereotypes), but it also seems like maybe kind of Richard Rogers or Oscar Hammerstein?

I mean, he’s been in lots of other stuff, like THE INCREDIBLES 2 and whatnot, that aren’t like, known for being super dark. I think he can temper it. There’s also a ton of MR SHOW (or W/ BOB AND DAVID) stuff that’s more just silly than dark, which he would probably hew closer to for SNL.

I mean, he was also a writer on SNL back in the day. He famously wrote the “Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker” sketch for Chris Farley (which is the parallel I was drawing with Mulaney, he's also a former writer who has become a star in his own right).

This just goes to show they need to let Bob Odenkirk host ASAP.

If you’re saying this new show will be on a par with The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat, then I think we’re in agreement.

“Cold air balloon” just smacks of the creating bankruptcy of this endeavor and not understanding what makes Dr Seuss books work. You can just hear the boardroom meeting where an executive was like “A HOT air balloon? Can we make that more whimsical?”

It’s also a small miracle that a comedy routine from the 30s about how “the players these days all have funny names” isn’t just a prelude to a bunch of racism.

I still say they should just have Conan host it every year like how Bob Hope used to. They should also have every Olympics in Greece.

Dang, that thought hand’t occurred to me, but this does seem like exactly the sort of thing Gondry/Kaufman should be behind.

I read it as just a portmanteau of “stalker” + “fan”, but now that I know it’s also an Eminem reference I’ll be sure to continue never using it.
