As I've said, my problem with the movie is not the ending. Superman has killed Zod in the comics before. My problem was the Pa Kent Tornado scene. That was just stupid.

Seriously. Someone once asked me, “What is the one thing that might make you walk out of The Force Awakens?”, to which I replied, “Other people.” Honestly, if the film sucks, I can handle that. But I will be really disappointed if my viewing experience is tainted by being seated people determined to hate the film.
There is no definition of homage. It could take almost any form. The X-Wings in the preview are hovering a few feet over the water, which is a callback to the shot of Yoda retrieving the X-Wing from the swamp:

Don’t fear that JJ is going to screw up this movie. Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
I think that, at the very worst, The Force Awakens will be aggressively competent (i.e. it will be a satisfying continuation of the story without being especially memorable). I’m very hopeful that it exceeds my wildest expectations, but that’s my baseline.
