In the stories we’ve seen so far, I think you’re right. Rose had been on earth for quite a long time, and I think it’s meant to be implied that Greg is the first of her human suitors to ever really demand anything deeper from her. The way she freezes up and says “but I’m not a real person” is pretty telling. We have

That’s the benefit of having a pop star like Estelle voicing Garnet, I guess! It took me a while to realize she was in that “American Boy” song with Kanye West. But yeah, Rebecca Sugar has a way with simple lyrics that have a lot of impact. “I am a conversation” is a really great bit when it comes up.

“Open Book”, “Shirt Club”, “Say Uncle”, and “Story for Steven” are the four episodes from 1B that should’ve actually come between “Rose’s Scabbard” and “The Message” (when they decode the message from Lapis). I find that the series flows better that way, since you get a conclusion to the arc about the “spirit morph

Yikes, amazon’s season breakdowns are worse than i thought! The escape pod episode is supposed to be the 2nd episode of the original season 2 (past s1a and 1b). "Jailbreak" with garnet's reveal was the original finale of 1b. That kinda sucks, because it must've felt super anticlimactic.

Pearl in particular is pretty attached to Rose. Probably the first obvious example I can think of is in “Indirect Kiss” when Pearl was low-key freaking out about Rose’s fountain/sanctuary being in such disrepair, and the way she said “healing lacrimal essence”. Personally I was pretty convinced by the end of “Rose’s

Creator Rebecca Sugar has said that the three gems and their relationships with Steven are based on different aspects of her relationship with her own younger brother, Steven (who does backgrounds on the show!). Amethyst definitely comes off as a big sister type.

You’re coming up on some really great episodes soon.

Peridot is another gem, and there’s a pretty good reason why the Crystal Gems don’t wanna see anymore of ‘em.

I was glad that the entire Cadmus arc was in a single DVD set though.

Oh right, I forgot to mention that there’s some weirdness in how the seasons are broken up, depending on where you try to watch them. The first production season was originally a run of 53 eleven minute episodes, broken into 1A and 1B. Four of the later episodes in 1B got shuffled into airing in the middle of season

It’s a definite rule of the show that everything is from Steven’s POV. They occasionally bend it a bit when another character tells him a story that just turns into fully realized scenes, but I don’t believe you ever see anything that Steven is completely uninvolved with.

Being around a long time means there’s lots of history to uncover, I can tell ya that fer free.

I don’t believe Greg owns or rents any sort of standard home or apartment. He either lives out of his van, at the car wash he runs, or some combination of those. Also, they never really say it in the show, but it’s been confirmed that Greg pays for all of Steven’s things that need purchasing (presumably with the

I think the most obvious factor in their apparently strained relationship is the fact that their former leader Rose Quartz is no longer around. Amethyst accuses Pearl of being “no fun anymore” because the team dynamic has changed. All three of the gems had to adjust to new roles when they lost Rose and gained Steven,

I’ll let you know that of the main cast, Pearl’s whole deal takes perhaps the longest to manifest.

I’m totally cool with receiving updates from you as you make your way through watching it. Eventually you’ll know so much about a character’s history and personality that certain expressions and gestures will carry a ton of actually-earned weight, which is another thing about this show I love.

I like that you reference Adventure Time as an example of a cartoon show that kinda blindsided you with emotions and lore, because this show takes the idea of that sort of payoff and just runs off into the sunset with it. I hope you stick with the show! It gets really good.

I factor in all the merchandise, the product advertisements, the comics, and the spinoff light novels and videogames when I say that. There was a certain time spanning the mid-90's thru the mid 00's when you could find Rei and Asuka wearing anything on anything in Japan.

It’s been a pretty good while since I’ve seen the original series, and I forgot just how affecting some of those images are, or just how damn cool some of the designs are. The franchise sure got run into the ground and back, but dang if it wasn’t unique at the time.

Okay Luke, you won me over with Tim Curry. SPAAYCE
