This is all reasonable. I also wouldn’t allow my child to play at a home with unsecured guns. But, that’s a different position from the OP’s.

Agreed. Which is why in this thread I’ve repeatedly stated I think they should be banned.
Wishing Summit and her family all the best.
I’m only being strident in my anti-gun position because there’s a strong tendency in the Jezebel comment section for people to project all kinds of beliefs and motivations onto posters with whom they disagree, and use those projections as a basis for rejecting the argument itself (i.e. “Those facts can’t be true…
The argument isn’t about homicide or suicide by firearm (I don’t think anybody is concerned that their kid is going to be murdered during or playdate, or intentionally kill themselves) it’s about accidental death by firearms during playdates.
I understand the point, but I think it’s disingenuous to say there’s no upside to being in a house with a gun.
1) You don’t know what a straw man is.
Exactly. Because bears kill more people than kittens.
This is tragic, but I’m not sure what your point is.
That’s smart and good parenting, but it’s not a great analogy for the OP’s position.
Correct.
I’ll provide you all the links, if you can honestly tell me that you’ve already made a good-faith effort to find them, yourself.
I dreamt I was visiting a Yosemite-ish national park with my parents.
First of all, I’m not one of “those guys.” As I’ve said multiple times in this thread, I’d be happy to see all guns banned. Never owned one, don’t care to.
All true, but as I’ve cited in other replies, the likelihood of your kid dying in a swimming pool are far, far higher.
Both.
Trampolines do not pose a greater risk of death, but I never made that claim. (They do send more about 100,000 people to the ER each year, though.)
More kids die each year in swimming pool deaths than from accidental firearm accidents, despite there being abut 10 times more guns than pools.
In the article you sent me, it says that 265 kids died in 2015 from accidental firearms deaths.
Nobody’s advocating the kids play with the gun. Jeez.
