@manderson: The only reason his was more expensive because he needed a good computer for some background tasks. I just built a kitchen computer for $600, which has an Atom 330, nVidia ION, and i'm using an HP L2105TM touchscreen. This can do a hell of a lot more then an iPad, and it was only $100 more.
More to the point, triangles are the actual problem. With triangles, you begin to compare the areas of the segments and not their heights. It really has nothing to do with the fact that it 3D (although that contributes to the distortion), but the triangular shape in general, 2D or 3D.
