Gah, that’s shitty and unfortunate because bands who are formed naturally generally know what works for them and their audience- greed tends to ruin things even if it does make more money for some.

It’s actually extremely common now: most recording artists listen to other albums that are currently charting/were big hits so they can try to get a piece of the winning formula. They’ll take and use certain sounds, effects, chord progressions, melodies (Which is a very fine line to walk), etc.
