What about my model that I purchased from Amazon for $3? Surely this one is safe!

I suppose I was exaggerating, but not about my friend with the rats. He had a really, really hard time getting out of his lease. His management company argued that because they set out traps for the rats, they had fixed the issue and therefore my friend was not permitted to break his lease. Not saying it’s not in the…
Honestly that reaction would just make me all the more likely to assess every applicable fee. These people don’t understand that they are the reason cancellation policies exist. Of COURSE they apply to you, they were made because of you.
Oh got it. Nope. We were giving him a courtesy heads up and it backfired.
They’re all fucking lunatics. I have that conversation on a routine basis. At one point in my life I used to feel some twinge of empathy for people like this, but those days are long gone.
Fingers crossed! Worth an ask for sure.
Yup. I would do the same. People get kind of weird when you want specifics and act like everything is “common sense”, but it’s just not. You’d somehow end up with the new employee who didn’t know which floor color to pick and decided you should get blue. Fuck that. This stuff should be clarified from the very…
I am not sure I follow.
Oh my god yes, being nice goes such a long way. I never understand people who jump straight to I’M GOING TO BURN EVERYTHING DOWN IF I DON’T GET MY WAY RIGHT NOW. I had a friend who used to actually brag about how much she enjoyed berating Comcast employees and in the same breath complained about how much they suck and…
Oh I agree with that 100%
oooh that is great intel
Agreed - I don’t read every TOS either. But I do that knowing that I’m the one fucking up if there’s some important info in there that I didn’t realize I agreed to.
Agree. They can sit there all day long. It’s in everyone’s best interest that you know what you’re signing.
Oh I completely agree. I have definitely signed leases for apartments that I wasn’t allowed to see beforehand because they were occupied (in GA this is apparently normal - in IL they’d just bust right in on the current occupant, not sure which is better) and it was not my favorite thing. Luckily nothing ever really…
I do get that, and I responded to someone else who had a similar comment. But things like “pay your rent on time” is not an illegal request. And my original point still stands - people need to read legal documents before they sign them, and preferably have their own attorneys (specifically talking about commercial…
I had a tenant - I am not making this up - file a lawsuit because I told him we would not be renewing his lease after its expiration date. He accused us of discriminating against him (for no stated reason) and said that he should have the right to stay in his space if he wanted to. This person was a god damned real…
Yup, exactly. You did the right thing. Because while you COULD assume it’s still covered, what you don’t want is, say, your property being sold down the line and the new landlord being like, “well I’m going to charge electricity, because it doesn’t say it’s included”. Because that is what happens.
Here in the US I think the lease has to specifically spell out that pets are ok. I guess I never tested it. My lease now says pets are good. I’ve also lived under leases that said pets were absolutely not ok under any circumstance.
Luckily (I guess), the asset manager group is out of state and they simply do not give a fuck if a tenant doesn’t want to pay for escalations. That is not an argument they are willing to have (I’m the one that gets to have it). They won’t allow us to give out their phone number. Which is fine, really, it’s somewhat…
You may be misunderstanding what I wrote. I am not talking about submetering.
