Ummm, how is diesel an expensive, hard to find fuel? cost per gallon is nearly identical to regular unleaded where I live, and they sell it almost everywhere including costco. my 2014 sportwagen averages over 40 mpg in stop and go highway traffic, and if I do a long road trip I can easily get 600 miles on a tank.
