Thanks for the detailed explanation and links!  Fascinating stuff

Thanks for the explanation! When it comes to research for buying, I just assumed “PHEV” and “EV” are already an adequate nomenclature for distinction.  But I am sure there are other situations that call for a more clarity in the acronym

People keep talking about this “BEV”, I had to look it up to make sure we’re not talking about some weird shorthand for beer companies...

MPG difference between doing 60 mph vs 80 mph is huge

Evora is like the Miata -- only enthusiasts know the real value.

    Minivans.

$10 per gallon gas tax, automatically adjustable to inflation in the future. Instant fix -- will slow some people down, increase funding for our bad roads. Win-win.

You seem to speak a different language. How does the statement, “Many of today’s sedans/wagons are not better than a modern crossover/CUV to drive” lead you to interpret that I stated sedans are actually WORSE? Did you not learn in school that, when one states “sedans are not greater than CUVs”, it is absolutely not

Part of your problem is still reading comprehension. I can list a large number of today’s sedan/wagon models that are not better than modern crossovers to drive. Even if my wording is confusing and you are interpreting my words as, “the vast majority of today’s sedans are not better than a crossover”, I am still not

Not sure how you came to that conclusion ... I read my original post again just to be sure, and I don’t see how my wording makes anyone think I stated or implied that sedans are worse to drive?!?!?!

What you say is becoming less and less relevant as manufacturers are abandoning the sedan and more and more sedans just plain suck. The reality is, I used to want to die on the “wagons are better than crossovers” hill. Reality won.

This is my hill and I will die on it :o)

I will put up a really good fight!

Oh, btw, I currently daily drive a manual 2017 Mazda3 2.5L hatchback. The best sedan is still very likely better than the best crossover because it is a better platform. But IMO the heyday of the sedan (spanning the BMW E36 to E90 years) is long gone; crossover blobs are taking over, and more of them are quite nice to

Some crossovers are better than wagons (but maybe only because some wagons just suck and some crossovers don’t have a wagon/sedan version).

I owned a 2017 manual 340i M Sport. The engine and suspension were fantastic. The steering was the problem -- it was very vague, gets artificially heavy in Sport mode without any improvement in accuracy. On slower twisty roads, it was probably the worst car I have ever driven because the suspension wants you to go

The reality is, a Macan “sedan” does not exist. Just like you say, many automakers are making crossovers to cater to the masses, but they are doing a good job of it and can be better than most sedans. I am not saying some sedans aren’t better than crossovers.  Many Jalops just write off crossovers because of

Sure, PDK is pretty good, but modern autos are also quicker-shifting. For sports cars chasing lap times, DCTs are better. For daily-driven sporty cars, you are not going to miss that millisecond ...

Still better than a DCT/PDK IMO.

Somewhat related — DCTs are dumb, even excellent ones like PDK. Either put in a real manual, or get a torque converter auto for smooth daily driving. PDK get confused with a lot of very low-speed, stop and go type of driving.
