Even birth control and abortion rights were not risky for the clientele he sought. Both were more often the attitudes of the wealthy and Republicans in the 1950s and 1960s. The bible thumpers were largely democrats at the time and not his target market (except the men on sly as secret hypocrites as they’ve been long…
Well, it’s true society likes to simplify things. People like Joe Paterno and Bill Cosby were deified and that gave them license to act like monsters. I don’t see any redeeming qualities to Hefner or his legacy. Same with Donald Rumsfeld. But who knows, if we have 3+ more years of Trump my standards may change.
Oh screw off. You being old doesn’t make you automatically wise and insightful.
The problem with that analogy is that nothing Hefner did had a fraction of the positive impact LBJ’s social policies did.
It’s simply not fair to hold men responsible for their own actions where women are involved. It’s always the women’s fault for letting for them do it (or for not saying no loudly enough or fighting hard enough, or for being dressed like a slut, or for appearing outside without a male chaperone, or for existing and…
Of course the obvious fact that the majority of these women were usually quite young, often intoxicated and most of the men were much older, richer and powerful than themselves. But fuck them for showing up to be exploited, amirite.
I can see good and bad in the legacy of most, including LBJ. But IMO what is seen as Hefner’s good work was actually what he did to promote his brand as a sophisticated/cool/intelligent alternative to the raunchier brands of the time. Did anything he do with regards to Black people put him or his business at risk?…
Omg clearly you know nothing about him he contributed so much to society and women’s lib
Of course you don’t blame Hef. You seem like an awful human being.
He risked nothing by “accepting” black people as members or “bunnies”. I don’t think for a second he would have done so if he thought it would hurt his business.
I was thinking about his civil rights activism. To me, it seems that it all worked to serve men. He fought for sexual freedom (for men to freely enjoy women), he fought for women to get the pill (so that pregnancies wouldn’t hinder men’s sexual activities with women and men wouldn’t have to worry about being…
I’m totally shocked that a man who made his career objectifying women would abuse them and treat them as disposable. Shocked.
Yeah, that’s a misguided criticism. There are real holes in Obamacare, and Democrats absolutely should work to fix them if there are any Republicans serious enough about governing to do so.
Yep. Absent a bipartisan bill to prop up ACA, clearly Trump will continue to strangle the program by all of the means (legal and shady) available to him. Not even the most purist progressives should want that.
Get out of here with that adult thinking!
Democrats, rather than enjoying watching Republicans crash and burn their dangerous healthcare repeal bills, are apparently validating whiny Republicans by drafting a compromise bill behind-the-scenes.
ok. phew. I am not the only one who was like.. why is her husband attractive?! guess i had low expectations because this is what I think of when I hear ‘Doug’

Jackets are so difficult to find in the perfect fit—especially in the affordable workwear variety. I usually wind up choosing between long enough, but too boxy and rolling up the sleeves; or workable sleeve length, but ends midway through the ribcage (though it was not meant to be cropped). The absolute worst item,…
