I’ve heard a formula/theory that it can take up to half the duration of a significant relationship to “get over” it once it ends and IMHO it kind of makes sense and was about that for mine. Given it’s only been six months I’d say cut yourself some slack.

In other words, you never want to be in a position of majority or decision making in the United States. Got it. At least we’re clear on something, because “Defund the Police” is going exactly no where.

I know right?

A slogan’s first, second, third and fourth job is to be catchy and uncomplicated. They don’t even have to convey a message so much as they do a good job of getting people to take notice of your movement. #defundthepolice does neither of those things.

When I hear ‘defund’ it says to me zero dollars whatsoever

they are spending several sentences every time trying to explain what the slogan actually meant. If you have to add three caveats, an explainer, and a small bit of backstory to explain a fucking slogan you have already lost the damned propaganda war.

“DEFUND THE POLICE” and then taking the next couple minutes or so to explain what they actually mean, it’s their time. But a lot of people aren’t listening by then.

It astonishes me how badly us lefties are at this type of stuff. As has been pointed out by folks far more clever than I, this is something that the righties are super good at; they find an easy to remember and repeat slogan and they FUCKING HAMMER IT until their base hears it in their dreams.

When I hear ‘defund’ it says to me zero dollars whatsoever toward policing because ‘defund’ has been sloganed by anti-choice nutjobs to mean that organizations like Planned Parenthood must close and receive no federal funding for anything, ever.

Because I recall that his signature achievement, a center-right health care bill that drove up premiums for a lot of people in an effort to preserve the profitability of insurance companies, led to the single biggest mid-term defeat for Democrats of my lifetime.”

Obama is right.

The caption on the photo reads, “@ossoff can have the plant burger, we’ll take the all-star special. Pick your side, Georgia.”

Ignorance is bliss.

There’s an interesting philosophical dilemma here.

Step One: try to breathe. It’s just one meal out of hundreds you’re going to eat this year.

People! It’s perfectly ok to cook stuffing/dressing inside the turkey! When you take the turkey out of the over to let it rest before carving, scoop out the stuffing into an oven-safe dish and stick it back in the oven — it will heat past the temp needed to kill germs in no time. And odds are, you won’t even need to

Ah yes, that standard issue leftist discrimination of somebody based on innate characteristics that they have absolutely no control over.

You can call it “weaponizing social justice language”, but I call it “making a reference for the sake of comparison”. When someone says “You know who else was just ‘doing their job’ too?”, they’re not equating corporate automatons with literal actual Nazis, they’re making a point about personal choices and

Any time you hear about something incredibly corrupt destroying American lives, turns out Reagan helped it get there.

The Kotaku commentariat has never been particularly good at understanding that analogies are about structure and not, at all, about magnitude.
