If not for the extreme response on the part of the neighbors (the 24/7 surveillance, the odd biblical quote signs) I’d say you had a reasonable point. But with that additional context it makes it far more likely that the simplest answer is true - the man is surrounded by jackasses. Potentially deranged jackasses.

Boy, I’ve had the complete opposite experience. Also got mine about a year ago and I love it. Controls are very intuitive to me. The button to turn the alarm off is the same exact button to turn it on, so I’m not sure why you’d have trouble turning it off.
