IMO Laurel's dad didn't want Wes dead, he wanted Frank dead. Wes was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. As far as we know, L's dad doesn't know anything about Wes, but he does know about Frank - and he knows he's trouble. I could be wrong, of course!
