For me personally, I’ve changed my ‘fun car’ philosophy from yours to that of the article over the years. A high horsepower car is still fun to me, but slow (& well balanced) car fast is more fun (for me).

Full throttle in a Miata is a good time but not a great time.  If you don’t get at least a little scared at full throttle you need more horsepower.

Yeah, I’m not going to argue a Miata isn’t a ton of fun.  But 90% of my driving is either in a straight line or stuck behind an SUV in a curve.  Very rarely do I get the opportunity to go quickly through the corners, but I can find plenty of 2-3 second chances to dip into the loud pedal every day.
