Latin, yes, but not Spanish - Corellia is clearly Italian/Sicilian! There are a ton of criminal/smuggler/mafia-type references, and besides, Corelli is a fairly common Italian last name.

I have to say - if a show is going to try to pretend to be "near future" where Androids are as smart as humans - don't dumb down all of the rest of the tech! There are SO many examples from (even less interesting!) other sci-fi movies/shows of obvious things any society capable of producing androids, etc could do.
