Well, hell, if you’re going to be a ghost, a bookstore seems like the best place to haunt.
Yes.
Anyone see him interviewed by Louis Theroux? It was before the allegations became public, and he was super creepy. Like really obvious weirdo predator creepy. And still visiting hospitals with free range, no boundaries at all. As an RN, I would never leave any patient alone with someone they didn’t know or trust.
True - I do NOT come from a background in media (in fact I come from a family of factory workers and shop workers) and my mum used to turn the tv off when he came on because of the rumours. And this was in the 70s. Turns out what she/we/everybody heard was surprisingly accurate (although there was also a rumour that…
There a nasty bunch. They fight among themselves a lot. He was either kicked out in some mean girls spat or flounced in a snit.
So my boss is a Trump supporter. And it’s really making me feel awkward. He hasn’t told me or anything, I just hear him talking on the phone to people and he mentions it all the time. Extra awkward because I’m a Hispanic immigrant :/
It looks like it came after he died. He gets the legacy he deserves, but it’s galling that he evaded justice.
What the news says is that Tony Blackburn was sacked because he told the formal inquiry that he hadn’t been questioned about allegations against Savile years ago, but the BBC think he was questioned. Nobody is suggesting that he committed any offence, but there is a difference of opinion about whether or not he was…
Everyone knew =- Johnny Rotten talked about it in an interview in the 70s! I’ve followed this story since it broke.
Johnny Rotten talked about it publicly in the 70s and the BBC edited out his comments!
Also these people and rings always target the same ‘types’ of children.
Netflix is/was streaming a BBC show called Detective (I think) a docu-series that spent time investigating this case. CHILLING. I won’t ruin it but there is a scene where they uncover evidence that is mind blowing. Great little series/procedural on how investigations are conducted across the pond. Oh, yeah this guy is…
I actually wrote a letter to Jim’ll Fix It (it was a tv show where kids wrote in with requests for things that they’d never usually do). I wanted to ride the black horse in the Lloyds Bank adverts. I am glad that nine year old me never got to meet him. He came across as massively creepy in a Louis Theroux documentary…
From what I can tell from my time there, people thought he was a bit weird and a bit of a loony, but there being actual meat to the allegations was a shock; they thought it was just easy jokes and low hanging fruit for poking a bit of fun at an eccentric. The big shock, according to my UK friends, was the Rolf Harris…
Louis Theroux made a documentary following Savile that was disturbing enough at the time (when Savile was still alive) let alone after details of his abuse of children came out after his death.
So is anyone at the BBC going to be held accountable? Sometimes I feel like we go too far trying to blame ANYONE for a crime, but this is some really serious, sick stuff. We’re talking about children.
And then the BBC tried to bury the report today by sacking a celebrity colleague of Saville. Have they learned? It doesn’t look like it.
Anyone I know living in Great Britain has been saying these rumors existed for decades. Good that he’s finally been given the butcher’s bill and it’s a large one.
