I was an only-generation Kodaker in Rochester for 18 of my 19 years there. I knew people who were 3rd and even 4th generation employees. I knew a guy with the last name of Eastman. It was essentially a cradle-to-grave paternalistic culture for the first 100 years. EK had apprenticeship programs for machinists,

I completely agree that is was a culture problem and more specifically, a management culture problem in the mid-to-late 90s. While I was not EK management, I was at EK in digital imaging product development and was a witness to what was going on.

Downsizing has been going on since 1984.

I trust you are joking though it's obviously Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach in the background. I've always wanted to be there when a real wicked storm hit, like the one with 98MPH winds a couple weeks ago. I'd be inside, of course!

Did you catch this photo from Occupy Portland? Nasty!

Good Morning America uses the current rear-projection version of Perceptive Pixel technology.

Growing up in Vermont, we were given a Snurfer for Xmas in, what I think I recall, 1968.

Wow! Just yesterday I finished Michael Crichton's novel, Next which published in 2006. Part of the plot of the book includes discussion of the hypothetical "Maturity Gene" which causes some people to be reckless, impulsive, and addictive. Was he a visionary?

Exactly. Your example is better than mine.

I caught all those glaringly obvious typos plus one more:

The problem with using a junk email address at Best Buy is that Reward Zone credit is issued by email.

WTF? I could be arrested for using the email address, nospam@nospam.com, when some stupid web form requires an email address?

To clarify with an example, what if the phone thinks the battery has dropped to, say, 50% when the actual battery is at 95%? Kinda like a gas gauge which shows a half-full tank when you know it's really down to 1/3rd.

Could it be that the software monitoring and reporting battery capacity is faulty and misreporting battery charge levels? I have not seen this discussed. This would be easily verified by opening-up a "faulty" 4S and monitoring the battery directly as it reportedly discharged at an abnormal rate.

My battery lasted about 3 years; I replaced it myself with a kit bought online for about $18. Coincidentally, that Nano is one of the two in my house which was recalled. I'm sure they won't even bother to look inside.

Two of the three in my house are recalled. I really wonder if they still have boatloads of 1st Gen refurbs to give out or if they will give something newer. 2nd Gen is OK by me as my existing cases will still work. Gen 3-5 would be a PITA as screen protectors and cases would be impossible to find with the possible

Yeah, I thought we already beat this one to death as a bad and impracticable idea.

IIRC, "Knife Tender" was a branded term used for these steaks, like "Certified Angus" is used today. "Certified Angus" bugs the hell out of me because it is only a brand and does not mean the meat must come from the particularly tasty Black Angus breed of bovine. It's completely misleading.

Well, they do run it all together, making you decide if it's DP Review or D Preview. I think of it as Digital Photography Review.

In the places I've lived, a fairly thin bottom round steak run through one of those is called a cube steak or a cubed steak.
