Does he still maintain autopilot was on, or does he think it turned off unexpectedly? Regardless, the number of incidents that bring up…

For all we know, Autopilot is designed switch itself off the instant before impact, simply so that Elon can make these kinds of claims.
More likely, the Autopilot appeared unsafe, causing the driver to instinctively hit the brakes...
