I’m surprised that the ‘59 Bel Air driver “merely” got used as a Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robot by the steering wheel instead of being shishkebabbed on the steering column like in the really old days.

Back in the day they lost money on every car they sold because they were built to such a high standard. But that was then the cars were just a tiny side portion of the big moneymaker for the company: Jet engines (and boat engines, etc.). Before they were forced to spin off the automaker.
