“In recent years we have done many things right: design, product engineering, brand rejuvenation, sales growth. As a result, we have put Mercedes back on top again.” - Now we are going to cut costs and investment in these key areas, specifically R&D, so that we can be more profitable in the short run; until we end up

Cutting R&D for a luxury maker seems like...not a good idea. Hopefully this doesn’t also equate to (more) decontented models and (more) unreliable vehicles.

I thought briefly about tossing my name in the hat over at Patrick’s new gig (The Drive) for weekend editor, but then I realized... no more weekends! My new-is resolution: Stay positive, and be a positive influence to those around me. Call me out if I screw up.

When the full lockdown was in place earlier this year, the traffic and roads were almost textbook perfect in how they worked.

Silver linings.  You should write for Jalopnik.  It would be a more upbeat place.

after spending months working from home I realized just how much time I was wasting driving, moved into a house in August that is a 90 second walk from work. went from driving 40-60 minutes a day to WALKING 3 minutes. (6 minutes if I go home for lunch which I do so I don’t have to take my mask off at the office.) I

If those were all Huracans, which they weren’t and were all trimmed to cost $250,000, which, not hard, then that’s $520,720,000 (Canadian). Which, for just 3 months, wow.

.. *new website format - I’m trying to read about this Lamborghini thing.. and videos show up about that minivan in Europe stuff I don’t care about... which cuts off my paragraph on iPhone tryin to read about this Lamborghini thing...  😑

Yep, Subaru of America reported their best September ever.

Yup, I had my best month ever selling cars in June. For Lamborghini, I’m sure part of it was pent up demand. But most of it I would guess was when the factory reopened they had to fulfill customer orders first who had been waiting months for their cars to be made, instead of interspersing them with dealer lot

Ain’t just Lamborghini, I managed to double my motorcycles sales these last three months through the virus. And I assure you, the vast majority of my clients weren’t rich. It’s more owing to the fact that people who wanted to buy earlier this year couldn’t, so there was a lot of pent up demand. Things will eventually

So in your very specific use case/needs list, yes go with a Polestar. I’d personally go Chevy Bolt or Leaf as they have been established in the market much longer - you can’t just ride on Volvo’s reputation and trust that it’ll do the same in the EV market.

Polestar might not have been the best example there.

Same here, there’s 3 Model Y just on my street.

Well because the “dope-smoking Twitter clown” has vision, focus, tenacity and is not beholden to manufacturing cars using the same infrastructure and processes that has been used most of the last century by the other automakers.

Despite the Tesla hate around here.. they are the only real viable electric car out there. Their ranges are the best, and theirs is the only charging network you can actually rely on.

There’s so many Tesla’s in my (middle class) neighborhood. Mind you I can through all the panel gaps from any distance, but they sure are everywhere.

I’m no Tesla fanboy, but JESUS EFFING CHRIST, this “Autopilot isn’t really autopilot hur-dur” shit is exhausting, isn’t it?

I really, truly, believe that everyone that’s continually complaining about ‘Autopilot’ being a deceptive name that misleads people is grossly misjudging the people that buy these cars.
