I would say there’s nothing wrong with the test as long as it’s consistent and reproducible.

Feels off because you don’t agree? The EPA just happens to be more conservative in their estimations, any OEM can make up any bullshit third party study to say something else but it’s a direct apples to apples comparison that the Taycan has significantly worse range than other competitors, no cheating required.
I guess “German Engineering” doesn’t cover electricity. Oh, wait - the IMS isn’t electric. So what does it cover? (I’m still a German engineering fan though everyone makes compromises).
Bu, bu, bu, but they’re supposed to own Tesla and make Elon eat 💩!
Something just feels off about the EPA tests...I’d be skeptical as a manufacturer too if other test cycles have all yielded better range.
You’re talking to somebody who predicted Tesla would fail imminently in September 2018.
also important to note that the model 3 long range got 455 miles of range on the CARB. so it really isn’t a great metric to rely on.
no dude, it’s a turbo. that’s why there’s a taycan turbo.
I understand the idea behind designing for purely efficiency, but it’s the performance modes that attract buyers who are willing to pay. Those buyers subsidize the research and development of more obtainable models for the masses. So in fact, the manufacturers simultaneously can be serious about GHG emissions and…
I’m no mechanic, but is that a tattoo of an alternator?
From your link: “There’s a significant chance that when the EPA tests the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, its numbers could be closer to our estimates or even lower, possibly hovering around 200 miles.”
Couldn’t Porsche just install a larger turbo to increase the range?
So after reading Audi/Porsche marketing materials, you decided to give them a pass.
“I’m 100% the exact opposite, because I like to believe I have the intelligence and foresight to understand this and successfully avoid any issues. Give me all that extra range; no matter how short lived it is.”
Porsche talked all that trash, and then when it came to the most important metric for an EV...it couldn’t beat vehicles 25% of it’s price?! Congrats Porsche...you’ll be the fastest EV alright...from charging station to charging station. Go take several seats!
It’s still going to be less efficient in the cold, at higher speeds than the EPA tested, and so forth.
Volkswagen and going around the EPA. Name a more iconic duo.
I’d rather drive 200 miles continuously with the peace of mind that I’ll always get 200 than have 400 degrade to 200 over time. I could foresee myself getting stranded often if I followed that higher expectancy of range.
