@Loonm: There will be a lot more information when they post their 10-Q for the quarter. You can look at their third quarter 10-Q for some idea of just how good those numbers are.

@Hello Mister Walrus: People were very excited about the iPad but the gross margins weren't typical for Apple.

@Jaredu: The payout from AdMob isn't nearly as good, but even so, this game invites exactly what you described. I have accidentally clicked on adverts any number of times. They will make a fortune off of this, and it creates lasting returns and encourages updates and support for the product, so that makes me feel

@Gerardo.Zamudio: I don't use my mobile as a gaming device, so this type of game is really ideal. It isn't overly difficult, nor does it take a great deal of time to master. It is a great way to kill some time, which is really all I look for in a game designed to be played on a phone.

@RuckingFetard: Well the WSJ and TechCrunch both reported that there was a 3G workaround coming in the first half of next year.

I agree that it is unlikely this is a 4G phone. I don't know that LTE is going to suck, but it is clear that Verizon is very concerned with the strain LTE will put on the network. That is actually one of the reasons the timing makes sense.

@nakedeyes: Well the contract clearly did change in some form. The pricing structure and business model were quite different when the iPhone first came out.

@badasscat: I don't know that the Evo is a lot slower. Both the Evo and the Epic use GPU subsystems. The Hummingbird just uses a better one. This is what makes the Hummingbird SOC standout. The video playback isn't even close. I tend to think the build quality of the Evo is a little better than the Epic. (Sprint

@dmartinez1: Can I ask how you are tethering on HSPA+? I am looking at this phone, but it seems that the new recovery image system is still a bit of a problem. Are you rooted, or are you using something like PDANet? I ask because I thought the built in tethering/wifi hotspot was locked down.

@Wizhk: I believe he/she meant to write $120/year. The 4G tariff is a deal breaker for a lot of people.

On Android:

@t('-'t): @t('-'t): My concern is that people will buy this and think they're done. In real world conditions this is a problem. The preparation requirements for this kit are significant. Most families that buy this, despite their efforts, will be underprepared in the event of a disaster.

@TheGM: So the two fastest phones on the network are mid-range?

@Synthfilker: This certainly is obnoxious enough.

Microsoft is right to hold off. They have the goods. The iPad is a retail success, but the enterprise success isn't there yet.
