This is a nice update. It’s clear Valve needed to weigh the risks before this short-term decision.
I literally just opened this right after taking a break from showing my mom the very game this is based on. Completing the whole Artisans world, then seeing the home remade.
If anyone ACTUALLY remembers the end of Westwood Studios as they say they do, they’d recognize their near-swan song:
This was, of course, one of many bits of corporate backtracking that happened throughout the development of the series, especially with Naughty Dog. The “so we’ll make lots of loot” bit was no doubt a sly jab at Universal themselves for the infighting.
Even more relevant to Running With Rifles is the Army Men games. The early ones, while they clearly took cues from Cannon Fodder, came into their own with the plastic soldier aesthetic and multiplayer-friendly strategy elements.
Clearly the Final Hours interactive book didn't satisfy your tastes.

This is certainly nothing new, and every school authority has its own ways of dealing with this stuff.
The sole difference is that Apple is a hardware manufacturer that ostensibly builds closed-source software, while Valve is a software manufacturer that ostensibly builds for closed-source hardware.
