I agree. The school I used to teach at in Delaware closed because many of the kids couldn't afford winter coats and had to be out at 5:30 or 6 AM to wait for the bus. This is highly unacceptable for kindergarten students, but in college you should have your winter clothing situation sorted out by then.

This is nothing new. I think it was ESPN that did an article on it years ago, only it was for basketball. Boys and girls in 9th and 10th grade were already committing to big schools. For the boys it was especially a big deal, because committing to play NCAA practically gave you straight line to NBA scouts.
