This is the EXACT reason why minority voters hate Bernie Sanders and Bernie Sanders supporters like YOU.

The fact is, Sanders will work harder for non-rich, non-white Americans than will Clinton. Recognizing that fact is not patronizing, regardless of who says it. The left needs to stop cannibalizing itself over minor differences in syntax.
Have you worked a sales position before?
Oh no.. I’m not saying Hillary is the best by any means. But the question is.. who’s going to get things done? Hillary and Bill have made horrible calls foreign and domestic. But they’ve made the calls and have had the chance. Can I afford, as a voter, to give the keys to someone who wants to completely change the…
Yes, BLM has gone to him to ask him what he’s willing to do and to broaden his platform because he wasn’t addressing issues that spoke to their community before.
Props for admitting you voted for Nader! I voted Green in the primary in 2008 (in 90% Democratic DC of all places) and people still act like it’s the biggest betrayal of all. *eye-roll*
You’re welcome to sneer all you want, but that attitude isn’t going to win over potential Bernie voters.
I don’t think Bernie is saying these things, his supporters have been a part of the reason why I know a lot of minority Democrats are put off by the Sanders campaign.
I don’t think Sanders himself shares these sentiments (to the extent that his vocal supporters do, anyway) since he’s always come across as genuinely respectful of social issues and communities. The problem is that he hasn’t been able to articulate how to incorporate social justice into an economic revolution. That’s…
As Murray Chang mentioned above, of POC who have heard of him, he’s got a 70% favorability rating. Alot of this is about lack of media presence and exposure. There are still huge swaths of the population that have never even heard of him. Most people don’t start thinking about the presidency until after the primaries…
Look homie, if you feel this line of reasoning gets Bernie more minority votes, by all means continue to tell minorities they “just don’t know what’s best”. I really do wish you luck in that endeavor.
His most vocal (vitriolic) internet supporters are primarily white males.
I was referring broadly to the overall thread. Someone else called minority voters stupid, hence the comment. Nonetheless, if you believe this type of argument endears minorities to your candidate, please continue. And the fact is Bernie needs minority votes to win.
I felt back in June, before the BLM protests, that he needed to focus a hell of alot more on Nevada and South Carolina and much earlier on if he was going to curb the “whiteness” narrative. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to jumpstart his minority outreach until after the protests, which is definitely a bad look.
Look, perhaps you believe calling minority voters stupid and saying they don’t know what’s best is a tactic that will increase minority votes for Bernie Sanders, but something tells me it won’t. Just a hunch.
The real reason why the US has none of the rights people in actual first world countries take for granted is because white Americans identify more closely with race than with class, and will fight like hell to prevent minorities from seeing social benefits.
Something that has alot of appeal to many of us on the left, and plenty of independents as well. I switched from Green to Dem to vote for him (though I’ll switch back after our primary), and I have no issue with him deciding not to run as a “spoiler” candidate. It’s a brilliant move, actually.
Links to Bernie’s criminal justice (included within racial justice), immigration, and women’s rights platforms.
It’s patronizing because it places you, random person on the internet, in a position to determine what “is best” for a group of people you are most likely not a member of. If white people really cared what “was best” for minorities, well, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
And all those white folks lining up at Trump and Carson rallies are really the paragons of political brilliance. Please.
