If you have watched the whole XY even before the League starts happening, it wasn’t boring. the plot started removing irrelevant things like old characters and Pokemon to make it a pseudo-reboot where Ash could grow as a protagonist again. The episodes did different approaches, and the filler…

and it just goes to show that due to the consistency of good character development “within” only the XY/XYZ anime, they don’t need old characters / Pokemon to destroy the current anime’s pace.

the new writers did a lot of logical fixation and the appearance of Charizard would just ruin it.

well the point of XY is that it’s a pseudo reboot where everything is set on a restart.

pikachu was weak in the beginning, no signs of old pokemon / characters, and Ash is a heck lot mature. he sure is reckless, but he’s a lot different in XY.
