1st gear: As I’ve always said, we don’t need the NHTSA. It’s redundant. It’s time to adopt the UN-ECE global vehicle standards and the NCAP model.

Oh man, this would be awesome for getting around big estates, especially when raining.
I’m actually liking this trend of ‘crossoverification’ or ‘wagonification’ of SUVs. It makes them seem more honest (plus more efficient) instead of giving them that facade of ruggedness assoc with a boxy look. Because 99% of the time these are simply people carriers. Some good examples are the new Q7, Pilot, and this…
It gets old after a bit. There’s one that goes down my street multiple times a day and it’s just annoying now.
I drive an e90 328i xDrive as my second car. It gets horrible fuel economy in the city (it’s a performance engine, afterall), but highway fuel economy is decent like you said. Water pump is electric instead of belt-driven, so it can crap out at any time, which leaves you stranded and in need of a tow. 17” wheels…
The idea of other people having sex isn’t “sexy” to me. It’s disgusting.
Carmakers can only sell older models in America up to a point: As long as crash standards haven’t drastically changed. An older Integra wouldn’t be crash worthy today. It’s a slippery slope if we simply allowed much older cars to be made new. Kind of like how those 1980s Ladas are still being sold new in Russia when…
The Lexus RX also came into production around the same time (~1998 for NA), which I think was widely credited to starting the luxury crossover segment. edit: didn’t see the other replies in this thread. Although the RX was based on the harrier, as was the GS on the Aristo, I think they were actually built for the U.S.…
Don’t like the idea of road rallying in EU countries - just sounds way too strict. I think the USA and UAE are perfect for this sort of thing with wide open rural roads and not too strict speeding laws (Virginia excluded).
Diesels have a lot more intricate emissions related controls due to EPA regulations requiring diesel to be as clean as gas.
By that logic, shouldn’t the Motor Vehicle Safety Act be abolished and we let the states decide on what vehicle standards we follow? If one wants to drive a Seat Leon Cupra, move to a state that allows it. Federal gov’t stays out. That would be nice.
Here’s the official page of the American Autobahn party: https://facebook.com/wewantanameric…
Looks amazing! Can’t wait to see people import these to the U.S. when they become legal.
So which gasoline Chevy V8 is under the hood (if you know)? At one point, it sounded like a diesel.
But-but... character!
Yep. Went to a wedding reception recently (actual pic). There were literally many of this generation S-class.
What’s funny is that the gas guzzler tax would apply to the S550 and not to any of the luxury SUVs.
Just like American tourists.
NOTHING screams ‘MURICA louder and in your face.
