My neighborhood doesn’t have an HOA, but we do have a “night pruner” who is not particularly appreciated. He’s no arborist, and is not doing the trees any good. 

Wait. People legitimately believed there was a person going door to door asking to traffic children!? I’ve known my fair share of pearl clutching suburbanites, but that’s just bonkers!

I live in a Texas HOA neighborhood like this. On one hand, it’s sort of nice to not have lawns strewn with trash, broken down Chevys, and toilet planters. (I’ve lived in places where this was an actual concern). But you do have to give up a bit of your soul to the HOA.

Woah it’s almost like this kind of panic happens every single year right before the midterms weird. Almost like it’s an entirely intentional ploy to create fear and panic. Anyway, better throw the cops some more money to stop this fentanyl crisis right?

Drugs are expensive and people young enough to be trick or treating don’t have disposable income. That is it, that is the end of the story. Three seconds of critical thinking. All it takes to make this as ridiculous as it seems.  So of course it gets so much damn traction.  

I find myself complaining about how ideologically bankrupt the Republican party has become, but in a perverse and horrifying way, your “they’re rerunning the ‘80s” comment makes me wonder if they’re not reverting to more traditional malevolence.

I keep saying to friends and families that it feels like the 80's all over again...satanic panic, drugs demonization, religious meddling, Right Wing conservatism being forced down everyone’s throats, nuclear war fears, Russia aggression...and a Conservative female UK Prime Minister, to boot.

Hmm, I could swear there have been several cases in the news recently about teens who absolutely were not granted exceptions he’s sure they’d get? Wild.

More likely, they know who they’re pandering to.

Last time I was at this museum, the opposite end had a nice classic Cadillac with a huge American flag, an American WWII bomber placed opposite, and the space for a gathering in between. A way better, and more obviously useful backdrop - maybe someone behind the scenes does indeed hate him!

Unfortunately the far right are doing well all around the world.
