The reason, or excuse if you like, for Snorri’s accent is the fact that Jonah Hill doesn’t do convincing accents. He’s playing a weird character anyway, so why not have an weird over-the-top accent to match?
Icelandic person here: utangatta is a melding of the Icelandic term “utan gátta”.
Utan means (being/something is) outside.
Gátta means gate.
So utan gátta means (being) outside the gates (when everybody else is inside).
In short, it´s a metaphoric way to say that somebody is an outcast/outsider/uninformed (when…
I finally got the urinating diamonds reference.
Maybe someone has already mentioned it, but the reviewer seems to have not followed Owen’s key role in his brother’s defense. Owen’s building has no security, so there are no date/time stamps on his meetings and movements. He is supposed to act as his brother’s alibi. If Owen says that his brother was with him during…
The point of this whole show was that Owen and Annie and Mantleray and Azumi’s problems were entirely normal and relatable despite their fantastic presentation.
Jonah Hill as Snorri was great.
“I’m sorry!...which one are you? Luxembourg!”
“WOW you are very good at gun!”
“It is hotter than the Reykjadalur Spring!”
“Thank you for such an exhilarating experience! I must visit your Texas!”
“ Annie’s mom apparently had some mental health problems, too, something we didn’t know earlier in the show. “
I’m glad that the show didn’t end with forcing the protagonists into a romantic relationship at the end.
Isn’t his nonsensical accent a reference to the genre that is being sent up in that segment? How often do we say “what is going on with that character’s accent?” Well, Snorri told you exactly what is going on with Snorri’s accent.
OK. When I cried, I cried hard. Audible sobs. It felt completely earned. Annie’s behavior was completely in character. She was always a person with a deep well of empathy. That is why she suffered so acutely from the memory of her verbal cruelty to her sister. That is why she immediately apologized to Owen for her…
I think you are missing the point of the trial.
I get your point about the ending but think about it from a dying person's POV - dying is fucking scary no matter who you are. I think she was harboring a ton of guilt about "passing through" when her husband and daughter couldn't/chose not to. I can see why, despite her struggle, she ultimately chose to live on than…
