It's really not believable to call Jewel ugly either. She has crooked teeth, sure, but she even pulls that off.

I don't think there has to be, but typically the WTF non-comedian person has some connection, however loose, e.g. poor Bea Arthur on the Pam Anderson Roast had worked with her with PETA (I think). It wouldn't surprise me if Lowe and Coulter were acquainted is all I'm saying. He's pretty conservative after all. Or…
I think she cashed in those chips a while ago
I think she must be friendly with Lowe on some level but he told her to keep her trap shut about it.
Good Stephin Merritt soundtrack.
I might have to disagree with you on that. I'm fairly certain he's a big enough name that he can get SOME money fairly easily just as long as he has his name on the poster. These aren't big budget ventures, so he likely only needs a million or two.
He's still doing it, but it's only once a week now and it 80% of the time it seems like a bit of an afterthought. The guests are usually just someone on a press junket for a movie and he gets an hour with them in a hotel room. Very different vibe from the old Nerdist. This Max Brooks one last week was good and was the…
That's a shame. I can watch her Tiny Desk NPR concert any time anywhere and feel extremely happy (doesn't hurt that she looks amazing). Maybe she's better in that kind of environment.
Yeah, the first two singles seemed almost like she was throwing out red herrings to throw people off the "sound" of the album.
Rock N Roll's production and mix sort of betrayed how good a lot of those songs were. I've heard some alternate mixes of those songs that made me rethink how I felt about them. I still think So Alive, Wish You Were Here, Burning Photographs and The Drugs Not Working are worthy tunes.
For sure, she definitely made that movie watchable (vaguely). I actually didn't hate the movie while I was watching it, it was only shortly after the credits rolled did I think "what in the hell was that?" (Actually I think I started thinking that around the time Randal began crying).
No shit. Someone like Spike Lee can barely get a movie made these days. I have to think Johnny Depp's involvement, however disgused it is, must be a major factor in getting this home movie bullshit produced and distributed.
I wouldn't say it's a curse, I'd say he just only had one trick. If anything, he's blessed to be able to have stretched his limited talent for a 20+ year career. A curse doesn't put enough blame on him.
Agreed on points 1 and 2. Clerks II was awful and unbelievable for many reasons. Smith clearly had never worked in fast food or even tried to understand how a day in a fast food restaurant might play out. It seemed unlikely those guys would be working arguably worse jobs than they were working 10 years prior with…
Clerks is really the only one of his that still holds up for me in any way. It's very funny and very '90s. If Smith had real talent as a filmmaker he would have pivoted to something else quickly, but he's basically a one-trick pony who has rehashed his early successes endlessly, made some self-indulgent failures, and…
Up and comers, sure but goddammit, there's veterans who can't get their movies made. Whit Stillman couldn't get a movie made for almost 15 years, and he was only asking for maybe a million dollar budget.
It did play Cannes. and won some awards there, as well as at Sundance. It was a bona fide hit.
Bother with the sequel. I implore you. It's great; flawed, but great. I think both WW movies are better than any Austin Powers movies.
At the time I was like 50% sure that the success of that series was due to David Mandel. now I'm 100% sure of it.
One time in 3rd grade my friend had me over and his parents went out for a few hours while we played Metroid. At one point he said "hey…my parents are gone, so we can cuss all we want!" So I proceed to cuss up a storm, to the point where my friend said "hey, man, you're cussing too much. Please stop." Asshole made me…
