I highly HIGHLY recommend the recent short series The Lolita Podcast by Jamie Loftus. It’s only a few episodes long and is a great analysis of the history of Nabokov’s book and its cultural impact, and the character of Dolores herself, and the way she’s been often misappropriated and misinterpreted.

I only just recently watched the series Crazy Ex Girlfriend because I’m always totally behind the trend when it comes to TV shows I’d probably like. All the way through I was hoping it wouldn’t end with Rebecca pairing up and I was so glad and so impressed that it didn’t. 

I don’t doubt for a second that if the mob had been able to lay hands on people there would have been a sexual element to the violence against the women targets.

I liked Fred but it was very obvious she was basically Whedon’s dream woman. 

I don’t know how Benson got through Buffy with her self esteem intact. Do you remember how she got fat shamed by Oz-Willow shippers who wanted to hate her for any reason, so much so she actually posted on the Bronze message board to stand up for herself? Even though she was an average size for a working TV actress, ie…

Buffy and Angel were extremely important TV shows in my life (never watched Dollhouse or Firefly so can’t comment on those) and even now they’re some of my comfort shows.

The majority of people aren’t eating Impossible junk food because they think it’s better for their bodies, they’re eating it because it’s better for the planet than Big Meat junk food is. 

Oh fucking gross I’d forgotten about the one acting like he was kissy facing the cutout as well. 

I remember seeing a story here a couple of years ago (?) showing a bunch of young white bros at one of their hate rallies posing with a cardboard cutout of AOC. One of them had his hand at the cutout’s throat in the classic porn style choke hold.

I’ve seen guys offer to walk attractive female friends to their cars, taxis, bus or train stations etc, but not think they need to do the same for less attractive friends as I guess only pretty girls need protection.

(Tangential to main story because I’m pretty sure Mulligan’s character wasn’t raped herself, she is avenging a friend who was)
