This is probably the most Australian thing I will ever post here, but my favourite birthday dinners were my 24th, 25th and 27th, when I went back to my home town and my mum did a full roast lamb dinner.

Off-topic but was the guanciale in a pasta carbonara? Because I know the well-actually food snobs probably won’t like this, but IMHO guanciale is generally too fatty to be enjoyable in carbonara, pancetta is the better choice.
Thanks for the link to the Medium story, that was fascinating. I fucking love The Takeout and hope you guys keep going from strength to strength.
I don’t have time to play a video game for, like, two hours at a stretch, and riding from point A to point B takes up a LOT of time in this game. Like, if you want an interesting exercise, use the stopwatch app on your phone to see how much of a play session is literally just travelling. You can bet that as soon as I…
Sometimes when I’m riding on my way to somewhere to do something I think I see a 3 star animal so I shoot it, then see it was actually only a 2 star or maybe I didn’t shoot it right. And I don’t stop to skin it, I just leave it there, because life is short and time is precious. And I think about how disappointed…
Here in Australia our ratings board does differentiate. There’s a specific warning for sexual violence.
Not to mention “Oops, while trying to line my horse up so I can hitch it I gently bumped a passer by who walked up at the wrong moment, oops now I am wanted for assault, oops now the law are coming, oops now everyone is shooting at me and I have a bounty, oops” XD
The piece about this on The Root also notes that while Wilson blocked and ignored POC who tweeted at her about this, the few she did respond to were white. As a WOC on Twitter who gets into kerfluffles about social justice issues, I found this....unsurprising.
DiCaprio was the better choice for the film Cameron wanted to make. At that point in his career DiCaprio was who more tween and teenage girls were batshit crazy for, and he had that quality where he was super pretty but also unthreatening and a “safe” canvas for a tween/teen to project all her romantic fantasies onto.…
yes, the terrible TV one with Catherine Zeta-Jones when she was moderately famous because of Darling Buds of May but not super famous because of Zorro!
I’ve had a theory since seeing this movie as a tween that Jack was totally a virgin before Rose. Cameron has gone on record (including in the bonus features on one of the DVD releases of the movie) that Rose has had sex with Cal at least once since the engagement. And you know Jack was so the type to have decided to…
yeah Muriel’s Wedding was not a rom-com, it just tricked/confused people because the protagonist was a woman and it has the word “wedding” in the title.
Jeezus, Jennifer Saunders, was that supposed to be an Australian accent? I could have sworn it wasn’t just our young actors making it over there in Hollywood, haven’t some older ones gone over too?
literally just read one where the author included what she cooked and ate for breakfast before something that’s actually relevant happens. XD
One of the biggest takeaways of the “Flowers in the Attic” series (and let’s be real, basically all VC Andrews books) is (1) how beauty is THE most important attribute a girl or woman can possess and (2) one of the main ways you know a girl or woman is beautiful is how literally every man she comes across is driven so…
Is it normal for an American President to have as many rallies as he seems to do, or public events that are reported as rallies? I’m trying to think back to the news coverage of your previous presidencies and don’t think I can recall as many for Obama or Bush Jr. like, obviously they addressed the public a lot about…
For next year I propose a word limit.
One of my friend’s mothers has spoken very candidly and with great self-awareness about the day she was out with her teenage daughter and saw a man look appreciatively at them - and it was the first time it wasn’t her that was being checked out, but her daughter. It wasn’t that she suddenly became jealous of her…
Also - and sorry not sorry to any men who might feel personally called out by this - but one of the main reasons why the standard of looking physically perfect but as though it didn’t take any effort is such bullshit, is because sexism and the male gaze.
This. “I like women who don’t wear make up” usually actually means “I like women who look conventionally perfect without letting on any kind of effort is involved”.
