Cold water works fine. I wash only on cold and barely use a dryer. Warm and hot water drains the color out of clothes. Dryers make shirts wear out faster. I haven't used hot water in ten years and don't put anything in the drier. Nothing smells bad. Also, my clothes last FOREVER. They never fade and they don't wear-out from the drier. I do iron, however.
