Are they really letting you swap out parts for any desktop pc hardware? Given the nightmare that configuring some hardware on linux can be, I really can't see them supporting more than a certain select parts from trusted partners.

It's also (in theory) a more stable platform since Valve will (presumably) be optimizing for and supporting all of the Steambox configurations.
