I’m a teacher and I currently work for a non-unionized ESD. I provide special education services to smaller districts who have trouble attracting and retaining special education teachers.

Recently, the school I’m placed at, through union activity, secured a wage adjustment after a decade of no cost of living…

Except for the part about the major tech companies colluding to keep worker pay low - or at least lower than market value.

Every petty workplace tyrant thinks they’re just better enough than their coworkers that they’re going to rise into management any day now - temporarily embarrassed C-Suiters - and they want no part of collective agreements or solidarity.

I am a white men, and I try not to be part of the problem, though doubtless I am fucking up somewhere that I’m not aware of. But yeah, maturity and basic respect for others — these are not traits that are necessarily fostered in white men, and it shows. I honestly think that being man-children makes a lot of white men…

They aren’t any more or less angry than anyone else.

White men are angry simply because they can be. White men suffer absolutely no consequences from being angry. There is no stigma. No stereotype. Anger empowers white men.

They are afraid...and angry because they are afraid.

The problem with places like Wal-Mart is that they literally are a monopoly in small town America. Every little burg in the midwest has one now at the expense of mom and pop stores that a town has. They end up not only the biggest employer, but the only employer in places where jobs and opportunities are scarce.

When in doubt, bring liquor. That's how I live.
