I have a vague memory of having possibly read some of the Tom Swift books. This would have been back in the early 80s, but the books themselves would presumably have been published in the 50s, 60s and 70s, maybe. I have no memory of anything specific in the stories.

it could have delved deeper into the Butler character’s motivations. it seems like it just settled for cat-and-mouse caper by mid-movie.

the Foxx character came across as douchey at first, then became more sympathetic.  The ending/climax was muddy to me.  But hey, it’s a movie.
