I thought of the Haruhi Suzumiya baseball episode while watching this one, especially with Lapis/Bob as Yuki. But I've seen comments about FLCL and Sailor Moon, I think they just used cliches from anime baseball episodes in general, those are quite common in slice of life-type anime.
