I've gotten so used to lane sharing in CA that when I've gone back up to WA I forgot it was verboten on the rest of the I-5. Johnny Law once pulled me in Oregon, saw my CA plates and WA ID and started laughing. I was appropriately sheepish, handled it with good humor and he sent me on my way with a mock stern warning.

You're forgetting that a) a motorcycle is FAR more maneuverable than a car, B) a motorcycle in motion is less likely to be hit, especially in slow moving traffic, and c) a motorcyclist has a higher POV than most cars and some trucks.
