The study is incredibly misleading. It clearly argues that mid-priced gas cars are cheaper to operate than mid-priced EVs. Not in extreme cases, or some cases - there are no qualifiers. This is an example of how statistics can be manipulated to say pretty much anything you want.

The scale of the change is so large as to completely transform the developed world. I don’t know who the “Climate and Community Project” are, but I can tell you that MOST Americans are not convinced by extreme climate or environmental predictions, regardless of the source. We’ve been hearing them for years (Hi Al

In general, I agree with you. I don’t think it’s necessarily just about money - it’s primarily about oversight. Tesla doesn’t want to cede control over their operation - especially pricing, but also messaging, marketing, distribution, etc; also the added complexity of managing a dealer network.

That’s an average of 5.5%. Which is a significant figure in the automotive manufacturing industry, in the tens of Billions per year for the big players. They also don’t advertise, but the savings there is minimal.

Of course this is stupid and pointless. Just like banning ICE vehicles is stupid and pointless, although that’s been accepted without much fuss.

Except the USA isn’t a democracy. We are a constitutional republic. Mostly because democracies are a shitty form of government... tyranny of the majority and all that...

So who is buying EVs then? Why is the F-150 Lightning sold out for 3 or 4 years? Why is the wait time for base Model Y like 6 months? We aren’t seeing that with the petrol powered models.

I did. Before I bought a used 2013 Volt, I compared over driving my current car (Infiniti G35) v. Chevrolet Colorado v. Toyota Prius v. Chevrolet Volt. I pay $.10/kW/h for electricity, added 10% charger loss, and figured gas at $2.50/gallon. No matter what I chose, the Volt had the lowest TCO over a 5-year period. Of

I think you’re being too nice to Lucid. They’ve had 7 years to develop this car. Billions in investments. A brand-new factory. Experienced employees from other manufacturers, including CEO and former Tesla Chief Vehicle Engineer Peter Rawlinson.

Great article! Big fan of Planelopnik, hope to see more of this in the future.

2027? Really? How about an article of all of GM’s missed EV deadlines over the past 5-6 years? Tesla was ridiculed for missing deadlines by a year or so, but at least they actually delivered in the end. The legacy automakers continue to over-promise and under-deliver, or not deliver at all.

But why is it so ugly? It looks like it was put together with Duplo blocks.

Great comment, and I’d like to add one more thing that Putin and Hitler failed to account for: American manufacturing

I’m guessing you live in a large city - tens of millions of Americans do not, and don’t live anywhere near a Home Depot or other truck rental facility. I’ve lived in rural areas a few times, and this thing would have absolutely crushed it in those locations. You have to drive long distances, so the good/great fuel

What, exactly, are the “consequences?” A bridge gets taken down for a day?  OH MY GOD.  Glad everyone is so concerned about some random bridge in the Netherlands.

Really? Tesla wasn’t even making cars when Musk joined in 2004. The company was barely 6 months old. They sold nearly 1 million cars last year.

There are a LOT of idiots that think a handshake and a person’s word is binding.

Steven Slater (the jetblue flight attendant) was in my college roommate’s carpool when they were kids.

Jason, I think most of your takes are, um, dubious, but this one is spot. fucking. on.

I don’t think this was intentional... Never underestimate the stupidity of the average driver.
