Thanks! I always try to look at sentencing from the perspective of “what gives us the greatest chance this person doesn’t re-offend”.

My view as a prosecutor. I suggest a short but sharp jail sentence that makes him never want to go back. Then a lot of treatment.
Kushner apparently now a central person of interest in the investigation. So glorious!
I personally blame Adam Jones’ fake news about racism actually still existing. In Boston of all places.
Buster Posey will be the starting NL C until 2039.
Do you know who don’t get their due from the same era of R&B? SWV. The group’s name was ironic given that they all had horrific voices when performing live, but goddamn it if “It’s About Time” isn’t still one of the greatest albums released during the New Jack Swing era. Still stands up!
Is it accurate to describe Toronto as a poor man’s Chicago? Asking as a native Torontonian.
In my opinion, Muhammad Ali is the greatest/most important athlete of all-time. Being his progeny must be a tough row to hoe.
Amazing dignity shown by a family dealing with the worst kind of tragedy.
The bad news is that a lot of police misbehaviour is caught on camera, but they still get off on the basis that “you didn’t see what happened before the camera came on!” I have prosecuted cases where dudes in handcuffs get kicked in the face by an officer but the officer is acquitted. It sucks.
I was 100% positive I would be a defence lawyer given my political orientation. Then I worked for a defence lawyer as a law student and had to stand up on behalf of some really horrible people (i.e. old dudes who sexually assaulted young family members). So I became a prosecutor.
Everyone loves dolphins because they are supposedly smart or whatever, but I have it on GOOD authority that they are way bigger assholes than sharks.
Any objective non-Baltimorean would agree that Machado is human garbage.
And you’re a bit of a jerk.
Agree with everything you said, but here’s a personal anecdote - I was at a conference of Ontario Crown Attorneys where they brought in some American hotshot prosecutor to speak. He gleefully told a story about how he had his investigating officers essentially break into the evidence room to tamper with evidence,…
There’s definitely no shortage of cops to prosecute in this country! Plus Calgary cops are probably the worst. I’ve never been there, but Alberta 100% has more deplorable sympathizers than any other province.
I get it. But it seems like the tide is turning somewhat despite Trump? The SC cop who killed Walter Scott pleaded guilty today if I’m not mistaken.
In my almost 14 years of practice, never faced off against a bookmaker. And of course I know there are mandatory minimums (not all of which I disagree with). But the really dumb ones tend to get struck down.
My feelings about cops are super conflicted. I grew up being very distrustful about them. Then I took a job that involved, in part, prosecuting them but also required me to work with them every day. The vast majority of them (at least in Toronto) are well meaning. I have a lot of respect for those guys and gals. But…
Sue me! ;)
