The cage absolutely was the problem. The whole thing crumbled on impact, including the portion that was holding the harness bar in place. Without the harness bar, there was nothing keeping him inside the vehicle, even if he was fully buckled-up.

I’m going with exhaust tubing.
And worse, in my opinion, he wanted to sell it to someone else who would potentially have no idea how crappy the welds were or how thin the tubing was. It sounds harsh but I’m glad that it wasn’t a new owner that was killed in it.
You blamed his death on the car community not embracing him and spoon feeding him safety tips. I didn’t realize he didn’t have access to the goddamn internet.
At the same time it’s entirely possible to have a close knit, support group of morons.
There’s a culture of drift missiles and just super janky project cars lately. I follow at lot of these people because it reminds me not everything has to be show car quality to have fun.
At the same time these groups tend to scoff at…
There’s no bracing for the side bars, at all. And there doesn’t appear to be a cross bar behind the seat either, so the 4pt would have to be mounted to the floor...
EDIT: And this doesn’t appear to be DOM roll cage tubing either.
Dude, did you even look at the “after” pictures at the top of the article? No proper cage is going to warp and bend like that from a simple accident. You can even see one of the welds that busted on the front hoop.
If an Evo can go flying off the road at Pikes Peak and the occupants can walk away, this guy should have…
*Disclosure* im not a profession fabricator to yes the welds might not look like dimes but unless you were born a professional welder i dont want to here it.
Look at how badly it collapsed. Had he stayed in, he most likely would have died too from his head hitting the tubes that bent like wet paper.
It took me 10 seconds to see none of his welds have any penetration at all. You can see in the crash pic too that one of the bars just sheared off. Impact probably blew his harness mounts off whatever he welded them too.
Look how the cage ripped apart at all his welds; wasn’t safe in the “car” either.
There is a reason why home built roll cages rarely work right... A force in one direct doesn’t mean you’ll be provided with safety in an opposite direction.
Yeah, well Hydrox have been around since the first century!
It was something I considered, but I wanted to keep the focus of this piece on the conflict itself—where and why it began, and how it might finally be ending. If I ever do an explainer-type piece specifically on North Korea, that will certainly be included.
I went to college in the late 90's and distinctly remember Wendy’s $0.99 menu.
In-N-Out is, quite likely, the most over rated food in the history of the world. They have burgers. They are fine, but nothing special. Their fries, however, are an abomination unto the Lord. I have never had a worse french fry in my life, and I ate microwaveable french fries growing up.
Good deeds are best left between the person who does the good deed and the person/people the deed benefits. Of course, that means not screaming into the void LOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATME, but trust me the benefits are worth far more than the costs.
