Leaving your (well behaved) kid to their own devices in public is one thing. Kids have the right to exist in public space. Expecting the employees to be responsible for keeping kids from wandering off... very much NOT the same thing.

Ok, considering how long Gamestop has been around and such a common part of the mall footprint, how does any employee today not realize that kids end up in there alone.

The problem is estimating speed. If it normally takes 20 seconds to close that gap and they car oncoming does it in 5, then it moves from, plenty of time, to Nope.

I’ve always been partial to cabinet facing on appliances (I don't know what this is formally called). You can get wood paneling to match your cabinets to make it look like your dishwasher and fridge are just big cabinets. This helps a lot in small kitchens, where the cabinet to appliance ratio is low.
