I agree that auto headlights aren’t perfect, but it is ridiculous that multi-hundred dollar cameras and displays are required in 2018+ vehicles for a backup camera, but a $5 photocell can’t be required to make every car have auto headlights.

I just can’t understand why ALL automakers don’t include automatic lights as standard. Or why they just don’t leave lights on all the time and have disabling them be a manual action you need to explicitly do each time you want to turn them off.

This is why I like cars that turn off the headlights when you shut the car off even if the switch indicates that they are still on. My Saab 9-5 doesn’t have automatic lights, but I just leave them on 24/7 since they turn off as soon as you take the key out of the ignition. It’s so much easier that way.

Full lights should also come on automatically whenever the wipers are activated. Too many idiots in silver/gray cars in the fog that I can’t see because their DRLs are fooling them.
