It has to be said: someone who is friends with George Bush cannot be a good person. They might, at best, have good qualities that help them come across as pleasant, and be very good at compartmentalising, but really that doesn’t mean shit.

I’m going to assume the most senior medical position in the FDNY pays significantly more than a firefighter yeah. I get what you mean he’s not the most privileged guy in the world, but he projects that spoiled rich preppie image himself.

I guess not super rich but his mother was chief medical officer for the nyfd, which must be one of the highest paid positions.

The only interesting thing about Michael Che is that he’s such a petty image obsessed bitch he got obsessed with Jack Allison calling him a hack. I feel like most snl performers aren’t interested in defending something so clearly lame

Rich parents and head writer for once of one of the most prized TV institutions (for better or worse) in the US? It’s kind of weird she isn’t with some A-lister or european billionaire, but it’s not totally out of left field.

Damn, an article I read to make myself feel a bit better about hating Colin Jost just ended up making me feel a little worse for liking Simon Rich!

About halfway through this interview I realised I was reading his responses in his King Richard voice. Iconic.

There are a lot of mediocre writers in Hollywood but none that I’m so baffled by as Kurtzman. Thing is he has made some fun schlock, Fringe and Sleepy Hollow are both co-created by him. I like the first Star Trek reboot movie, but largely because its just a very tight heroes journey right out of a screenwriting

Sounds pretty fun, and also jeez can we please leave this few decade period in a creative sandbox that stretches a few tens of thousands of years in either direction from the Battle of Yavin?

Undiscovered Country is so great.

I totally agree, but as much as it would be cool to see I don’t think we need an Alex Garland or Denis Villeneuve. Part of what’s so disappointing about nu trek is it shouldn’t take a visionary to make a good modern take on a star trek show, just a competent showrunner who understands the basics. Instead we're stuck

Tbh I’m not saying it has to be perfect, or that it ever has been, but its clear Kurtzman and the two or three people at his level just fundamentally don’t understand what made star trek good in the first place, but think that they do (hence all the stuff in the franchise Kurtzman touches having basically the same

Putting aside the kinda lame style, it would be a lot easier to appreciate a show like this if we actually had a Trek show at the moment that was at all reverent or understanding of the philosophy of the shows that came before it.

You know its possible for John Travolta to be interested in men and still love his wife right?

I really liked Mulroney in The Righteous Gemstones most recently, and wow that cello revelation is kinda wild, particularly since I’ve never seen Mozart in the Jungle

I just saw something like 80% of free trials for Quibi dont lead to a subscription, and they’re at something like 70,000 subscribers, which.. oof

Same in the UK. The idea of Disney dividing their programming between Disney+ and Hulu makes a certain amount of sense in the US, but all it means for us outside of that area is we might never get to see certain shows without pirating or setting up a VPN.

I think you’ve got a point, though personally I think the idea of handwaving the thing would be funny. The show’s been on for ages and already been cancelled once, it wouldn’t be the end of the world to just let it go and produce some new stuff.

damn it!

Archer did like three seasons of reinvention before the coma tbf.
