It's because of a weird variety of pine nuts that grow in China and get mixed in with the good ones. There may be medical things that can be done to get rid of the taste (metal, from what I understand, is kind) and you can just avoid pine nuts from China (assuming the labeling is honest).

A black-out drunk is an alcoholic, almost by definition. If she starts drinking at home with you she will either mess up your home or get loose. Offering to let her drink at her or your home is still helping her continue to drink in a way that could easily get her dead.
