Personally I think there was a recent generational shift in terms of young people’s relationships with their elders. And it drives older folks crazy because they spent their whole lives obliged to listen to the older generation, and now it’s their turn and nobody wants to hear it.

I have no skin in this game, in terms of her work. I watched the first movie in a theatre, at a company event, and thought it was fine for kids. (I was out of the target demo by that point.) I never read the books.

I rewatched Lost a year or so ago, and I think 1 is really strong, though it drags a bit on rewatch as you know a lot of the character revelations which are dribbled out over the course of the season. Personally I liked 5 the most, when the show is humming along in pure pulp sci-fi mode.

Wolverine and the X-Men was a really good adaptation that juggled a ton of characters and aimed for big stories. It’s a real shame it got cancelled after only one season, was really looking forward to Age of Apocalypse being adapted. And that show also gives me pause on naming a best ever adaptation this early.
