I like their debut album. A bit heavier, more raw sound that they moved away from.

American Life is also one of my favorite albums by Madonna. The singles (including Die Another Day) don’t accurately represent it and are a bit more sensationalistic.
Must have scrolled past it. Thank you!
Aeroplane is one of my favorite RHCP songs. I like Warped a lot, it rocks in a Navarro way that that they never have with any of their other guitarists but still feels like RHCP.
Are movies in which he was a supporting actor not eligible? Because Creed and Creed II are way better than lots of the films in this list. (The first one is better than practically all the Rocky sequels.)
If it makes any difference to you, while Covid is definitely an element throughout the season (two main subplots takes place in Italy and China), it only really takes central control of the narrative in like the last two episodes and the season ends right as lockdown begins.
At least he had Empire Records.
My theory (based on personal experience) is that the main contingent of Grease 2's devoted fandom were kids who saw it repeatedly on cable in the 80s. And I mean young kids, not tweens or adolescents who were beginning to develop taste.
We saw Blue Beetle over the weekend. Thought it was a solid superhero film, and pretty entertaining if you’re into the genre and aren’t expecting anything mindblowing. Stand alone film, which was refreshing, with a lot of heart and great cast. The family and legacy hero themes paired with its smaller stakes elevates…
I guarantee watching the “It was a dream” twist at the end of Twilight Breaking Dawn in a packed theater at the time of release was one of the best all time movie going experiences period.
As an old school comic fan, I’ve always had side eye for all these articles talking about how the MCU was such a success with B-list characters. The Avengers have always been A-list Marvel characters, one of the core pillars about which the comic book universe was built around- if not in mainstream recognition like…
Star Trek: Generations is sort of a strange selection for the theme of this list. It’s kinda a tv to movie adaptation of Next Generation, but it’s also kinda a continuation to the established Trek film series- it’s not really like the other entries on the list.
My recollection is that we absolutely did care when Crystal Skull was coming out, and quickly got deflated once it arrived. There was phenomenal hype for the return of Indiana Jones at the time.
It’s pretty tough, but I wonder if the 80's in particular was fertile ground for this, since I can’t really recall similar franchises being spawned pre-80's. Anyway, some other big “80s” franchises I could think of: Rocky, Rambo, Gremlins, Karate Kid, Back to the Future, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street.
I loved the first book, but couldn’t make it past the second chapter of the second book when I realized a lot of what I had loved had been jettisoned because of the plot. It felt like starting over, and I was not able to.
I similarly got way too distracted when Elena started humming TLC’s “Waterfalls” on the cargo plane. The movie was set in summer 94, while that album released in Nov 94 and the song wasn’t released as a single until May 95. There was another pop culture reference that was slightly too early, but I forgot what it was.…
To be fair, lots of heroes just have one of Superman’s powers.
I really fucking hate that this was the reason they wrote him out, and wish they had just leaned into it. They were on a magic island, for fuck’s sake! I think they could’ve come up with something.
I can never fully regret watching Lost, because no other show I’ve ever seen was such a mix of its diverse storytelling, filmed so beautifully, that was so boundary pushing and experimental. It could be a different type of episode every week, between survivor story, spy thriller, crime heists, family drams, mystical…
In this case, I think Ron Moore specifically mentioned that the Writer’s Strike gave him time to rethink the final season, and this is what we got. I forgot if he mentioned what the earlier plan had been, but I know his choices of the Final Five came out of his rethink.
