There’s a bit of dissonance for me, because Claire Foy portrayed her maternal instincts a bit more lovingly in the early years of her motherhood (and was a much more empathetic queen overall anyway). To see what it’s become during the Coleman seasons is sort of jarring and sad.

On top of that, they didn’t touch on Fergie which from what little I know would further throw Diana into relief of what were actually her strengths and the benefits she brought to the family.

So much this.  I’m really sort of confused by the general consensus I’m getting that Diana was *so* in the wrong with her Phantom gift.  She certainly loved the spotlight as portrayed in the show, but I can also see how both performances were also meant as tributes to Charles.  The performances can be both for her and

I think you’re correct, so much that I can’t imagine anyone watching this show and not coming away with the feeling that Charles (and the family by extension) are pretty monstrous and that Diana is a victim.

It felt like there was a lot more characters in cars this season in general. I remember Philip taking a joyride in season 2 maybe, and Margaret’s first husband liked his motorcycles, but this season had lots of sequences involving Charles, Margaret, and Diana sitting in cars. But definitely Diana got the lion share.

Yes, but Charles is “forced” to marry Diana by someone who is not Diana, so I’m not sure the abdication is a license for him to be so cruel (or have brought her into all this to begin with)

Granted, but if that shallow narcissism is her character’s greatest fault (and I really think that’s the main negative the show has presented about her), she’s not bad at all compared to every other character around her who have their own expressions of narcissism yet none of her portrayed virtues.

I don’t know the ins and outs of the real persons. As portrayed on the show, I don’t think Diana comes off as a saint, but does come off as a human being underserving of the cruel treatment she receives. Again, I’m not too versed in the real life story, but Charles as presented clearly exhibits faults beyond the human

I guess I must be really indulgent. While the Phantom video is clearly something else and cringe worthy, I can’t help but think I’d be utterly charmed if someone I loved went through the trouble for me, especially if they kept it private (I’d probably have been embarrassed by the public Uptown Girl performance but

I was okay with the hour spent with Fagan more for the way it was used to spend an hour looking at the breakdown of the social net of Thatcher’s UK.  But as pointed out by Caroline and the commentators on that episode’s thread, there was too much fantasy involved with who Fagan really was.

The worst I can say about this dramatization of Diana is that she is silly and needy. But her strengths are shown to be an enormous heart and capacity to love, so that those weaknesses could be overlooked or even be charming in their own way depending on the other side of the relationship. And as portrayed

I was really waiting for the story to return to Elizabeth with the truth about her cousins. After the library scene and her certainty that they were dead I thought the story needed to see the Queen’s reaction to the lie or the revelation that she knew they weren’t dead. I guess the show wasn’t ready to dramatize

I just posted about this! I even mentioned the T. Rex joke!

Wanted to dispute just a little the description of Meet the Robinsons as generic computer animated fare. I didn’t watch it until recently, because back then I was all about Pixar while Disney films had been lackluster. But darn if when I finally did watch it wasn’t a really cool, off kilter 50's esque vision of time

Mother Gothel is very problematic villain, because she’s definitely manipulative and evil to the extreme, but she also still behaves in somewhat motherly ways to Rapunzel in the early part. Really effed up motherly to be sure, but like I can’t get over how she finally agrees to go get the shells for Rapunzel’s paints.

Moana might seriously be my favorite Disney animated film. I find its mix of characters, songs, plotting (especially the climatic twist), adventure, humor, and mythology just the perfect package.

Billy Elliot and its miner strike backdrop was something I kept remembering as to how her policies were affecting common folk. Brassed Off, too.

Right. They also have WandaVision set to premiere in early 2021, which would already generate subscriptions from the MCU target audience.

I don’t know that Disney was the stupid one. Anyone who couldn’t wait a few months to rent or watch it on Disney + probably is.

They are releasing these movies to generate more subscribers. Soul is already releasing on Christmas, so I think if they are rethinking Black Widow’s release they won’t do it so close in order to have two events.
