I don't know, it just popped up on my tumblr recently. I think it might not be official TFH, though it's still my favorite!

I think it's because she has Dog on her side.

Dude, I'm not saying meat is murder. I'm just saying that most people either don't think about or don't care that the meat they eat is produced under cruel (not to mention environmentally destructive) conditions. I don't think it's "sanctimonious garbage" to point that out, and it makes me sad that the (awful,

I wish wikileaks could separate themselves from Assange. I have a hard time believing someone who called Sweden "the Saudi Arabia of feminism" could have an intelligent perspective on marginalized people.

I think doublylink did just want to stir things up, but I also think she's got a point that most people want to ignore.

It's confusing to me because most people are completely fine with things like this happening:

What I think matters is how an animal is treated over its whole life, including how it is killed. Focusing solely on the method of slaughter doesn't make much sense to me.

I didn't think of that! What a nicely subtle burn in return for Peggy's racism. This makes me optimistic for the direction they're going to take Dawn's character.

Oh man, I need to figure out how to nominate this for COTD.

You know, I mostly agree with your position, but when you're insulting and rude to people, they're just going to black out whatever you say and become more firmly convinced of their own rightness.

I think the original commenter made an overgeneralization, sure, but one I also think still tends to apply to the majority of people who eat meat. Humanely-raised meat makes up a tiny fraction of the meat produced and consumed in the US, indicating that most buyers either don't know or don't care about the cruelty

I don't think any one here is saying that anyone who eats meat can never be able to make a moral judgement on the ethical treatment of animals, just that most don't. I'm glad you do, but truth remains that the majority of meat consumed in this country is produced under pretty awful conditions.

Yeah, I've heard the argument that many "recycled" products actually take more energy and resources to produce than new. "Eco-friendly" products are just designed to make people feel good about buying crap, when as you said we really need to be consuming less.

They're still treated in pretty horrific ways for most of their lives. I don't think the specific way they're killed has much to do with the argument.

I don't think I would have put it as harshly, but I pretty much agree. There's some serious cognitive dissonance going on in the brain of someone who's horrified by a dog being slaughtered and eaten but who happily eats bacon for breakfast and pork lo mein for dinner. I'm guilty of it myself- I don't eat meat but I

Just because a dress is made out of organic cotton or recycled polyester, that doesn't mean it's "eco-friendly." Marginally better than one made from conventional cotton or new materials, maybe, but it probably still has a significant footprint in terms of water, energy, etc.

Awesome!

Yeah, I think another problem with this kind of subtle bias is that it affects both male and female students. The girls will grow up doubting their abilities, and the boys will grow up thinking girls just aren't as good at math as they are.

I agree, I think she looks beautiful, albeit in a strange, unusual way.

Aw, the more I read about Zooey, the more I like her. Also, thanks to the recommendations of people here, I started watching The New Girl, and it's surprisingly pretty good! I actually found Zooey's character to be pretty three-dimensional and relatable, and same for the guys on the show.
