Well shit, what did she expect? She primed him by being an attractive member of the opposite sex, thus automatically triggering his protective man-rage.

Precisely.

I cosign this 100%. She was my favorite part of Jennifer's Body- just look at her smirk in this gif!

I'd love to foster a pit, but since I'm too poor to own a house and landlords never allow them, I can't.

Yay!!!

I had the same reaction. Dashboardpig, keep your wits about you!

I...don't know any women who talk remotely like that? Are there people who really say "huncal" and "LMAO" unironically?

This seems like a good place to link to a really awesome blog post I read recently. Sample:

Dame Maggie does not approve of telling people they look like assholes for wearing some arbitrary item of clothing.

(I hit cancel, dammit, Jezebel! Never mind.)

Ah, I get what you're saying about terminating beyond viability. I'm still not sure how it relates to sex-selective abortion, though- I believe most of those occur before viability, right? I definitely agree that there should be more incentive for access to contraceptives!

Can you elaborate on that last sentence? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Sex-selective abortion is definitely a symptom of larger problems. Banning it won't fix these problems, though, and has the extra bonus of violating a woman's right to control what goes on in her own body.

I didn't see your comment and just basically repeated both these points above. You said it better than me!

1. Being able to make choices about your own body is a fundamental human right. We might not like sex-selective abortion, but when it comes to other women's bodies, it's not up to us.

Every time someone makes a reference to Lolita without having read the book I get a big sad. Unless she means she's actually a twelve-year-old orphan kidnapped by her charismatic pedophile stepfather, in which case, carry on.

I don't actually particularly dislike her voice or her music, but still find her a little grating. This comment from sunnyciegos on this [www.theawl.com] excellent Awl article kind of hit it on the head for me:

I felt like her whole character was built as a reaction to the abusive men in her life (starting with her dad), but I can definitely see that there could be other interpretations.

Yeah, I definitely rolled my eyes at Mikael-the-sensitive-feminist-yet-irresistible-ladies-man fantasy.
